Chiefs Bandanas - Product Design
Chiefs is an online retail brand based out of Santa Monica that sells versatile and affordable bandanas. Tapping into the bohemian aesthetic of California's youth culture, Chiefs Bandanas aims to be an essential item at desert festivals for years to come. In addition to serving as a lifestyle brand, Chiefs is committed providing positive social impact. A portion of every bandana sale is used to support charitable causes, ranging from Children's Health to Animal Welfare.
I worked with the Chiefs team to develop their primary logo, visual identity and core product prior to the brand's official launch in October 2017. They wanted something simply, gender neutral with a distinctly badass vibe.
My sources of inspiration for the project were the Coachella Valley concert scene, California racing and motorcycle culture, Venice Beach Bohemia and the Native American blankets.
Starting as a sketch on a napkin, the Classic Chiefs bandana pattern was the result of several stages of development and iteration. The goal was to deliver a design that contained both contemporary and classic elements, and could be adapted to integrate new designs elements to represent specific causes and charities.
The Chiefs logo is a custom crafted vector developed from the popular script font Snell Roundhand. The goal was to create an emblem with a crafted aesthetic, reminiscent of monogramed embroidery and the hand painted lettering seen on vintage hotrods and motorcycles.
